Remembering Whitney Houston (1963-2012)
Like for so many others, Whitney Houston has been an inspiration for me for as long as I can remember. Growing up, her music got me through so many hard times. Her music was healing for me and still is to this day. There’s a memory for every song, to every lyric she’s ever sang. But, she’s more than just a beautiful voice, she an amazing spirit that shined with every performance. Tonight, the Grammys are on. At the beginning of the show, they showed a clip of her Grammy performance from years past. I remember watching that performance as a little girl, eyes glued to the television thinking wow, she’s incredible. Whitney, you will truly be missed. Thank you for all the beautiful music you’ve created, for inspiring so many of us to dream and for getting us through. God Bless.

Roberta Flack at the Mahaffey Theater
Over the weekend, I traveled out to St. Petersburg to see Mrs. Roberta Flack play the Mahaffey Theater; my best friend Honey Larochelle sings background vocals for her. The singer/pianist and her 8-piece band performed a 90 minute set, playing all her classic hits like, “Killing Me Softly”, “The First Time I ever Saw Your Face” and “Feel like Making Love”. The show was incredible! The band blended so nicely together with Mrs. Flack’s crystal clear vocals soaring above. I had an amazing time and felt very blessed to have had an opportunity to be apart of the evening. Another stellar performance!
Roberta Flack has a new project coming out in February called “Let It Be” on iTunes; a collection of classic Beatles covers. Be sure to support her new project when it comes out; it’s definitely a must-have. In the meantime, preview a few tracks on iTunes.

Facing The Music Industry As An Independent Artist
Music Think Tank recently posted a blog that I found very useful. Most of this is common sense, but you’ll be surprised at how we forget some of these key steps when dealing with industry pros. Take a look!!
It’s true that industry professionals and artist mind sets could not be farther apart. They are on two totally different sides of the game, yet working together as a team. All industry people probably receive anywhere from 15 to 200 emails or calls a week from indie artists wanting to work with them or get their advice. This is not an exaggeration. Most of these calls/emails are unfortunately (more…)

New Music: My Musical Snapshot
After being inspired by one of my favorite singer/songwriter Gabe Bondoc‘s latest 2011 EP, I’ve decided to embark on a musical journey of my own. Over the last few weeks, I’ve been writing and recording new material that I can’t wait to share. The new songs are definitely different from what you’ve been hearing from me and what you’ll get on the album, but they still hold true to my overall message and that is to inspire, encourage, love and entertain. The EP will consist of (more…)
What I Learned at The 2011 ASCAP Expo by Cari Cole
So, I wanted to share with you a really nice blog written by Cari Cole after she attended the 2011 ASCAP Expo this past April in Los Angeles, CA. Cari gives us a good look inside the state of the industry and what we can do as indie artist to be successful. I definitely will be attending next year! Check it out!
This past week I was at the 5th annual ASCAP Expo “We Create Music” (that’s a pic of pop singer-songstress Sara Bareilles interviewing the legendary Lindsey Buckingham of Fleetwood Mac shot from my iPhone).
If you are a singer-songwriter, an emerging artist, producer or are trying to make it big, put ASCAP on your calendar for April 2012 – you won’t want to miss it. I have attended 3 out of 5 not only have none of them left me disappointed in the slightest, (more…)
