Remembering Whitney Houston (1963-2012)

Like for so many others, Whitney Houston has been an inspiration for me for as long as I can remember.  Growing up, her music got me through so many hard times. Her music was healing for me and still is to this day. There’s a memory for every song, to every lyric she’s ever sang. But, she’s more than just a beautiful voice, she an amazing spirit that shined with every performance. Tonight, the Grammys are on. At the beginning of the show, they showed a clip of her Grammy performance from years past. I remember watching that performance as a little girl, eyes glued to the television thinking wow, she’s incredible. Whitney, you will truly be missed. Thank you for all the beautiful music you’ve created, for inspiring so many of us to dream and for getting us through. God Bless.

Today’s Feature Post: Musician – Act Like A Business?

This blog post by Peter Spellman originally appeared on his blog “Music Career Juice”. Peter is the Director of Career Development at Berklee College of Music, and the author of several books about the music industry including “The Self-Promoting Musician” and “Indie Business Power”.

Musicians are often told they have to act like a “business” to succeed. In this post, Peter proposes a completely different way to see your career. Enjoy!

We’ve heard it before.  A musician must “act like a business” or risk an impoverished existence.

I appreciate the thought: Without ceaseless attention to things like planning, budgeting, organizing and marketing a music career will more often careen off course, and be thrown onto the rocks of good intentions. Granted.

But “act like a business?”

Why aim so low?

The metaphors we live by are telling. (more…)

If People Can’t Handle The Brightness Of Your Light, Give Them Some Shades

So, I wanted to share with you a really inspirational blog from Cari Cole. It really got me up and going. I hope it does the same for you as well. To read more posts from Cari visit her online at www.caricole.com

The title of today’s article, I must confess, is not mine. I heard it from the incredible motivational speaker, author and goddess, Lisa Nichols, just last month at the eWomen’s Network conference in Dallas, Houston. It was the punch line of her speech. Pow!

It makes me think of the quote (not from the man who after being wrongly imprisoned for decades forgave his captors, Nelson Mandela); rather it comes from the bestselling author and motivational speaker, Marianne Williamson: It is one of my favorite quotes ever, and gosh darn it, I well up every time: (more…)

5 Easy Steps To Making Your Dreams Come True

Hey there! I thought I’d share this blog with you from the crew over at  Music Think Tank. Although, you may not be a musician, this can apply to any dream…Enjoy!

Humans have the amazing gift of dreaming. It allows us to imagine things that are absolutely crazy, and completely out of our reach. Like flying, staying hours under water – or world domination. That’s what we do. Ambition is a great source of energy. Being able to dream big will give you guts and make smaller dreams feel much more attainable. Ambition will make you creative and more resourceful.

Dreams are only dreams until you write them down. Then they become your goals. – Anonymous

The difference between a dream and a goal is just a question of attitude. Dreams are by definition something that’s out of reach. A goal is something that you plan and work towards. (more…)

New Music: My Musical Snapshot

After being inspired by one of my favorite singer/songwriter Gabe Bondoc‘s latest 2011 EP, I’ve decided to embark on a musical journey of my own. Over the last few weeks, I’ve been writing and recording new material that I can’t wait to share. The new songs are definitely different from what you’ve been hearing from me and what you’ll get on the album, but they still hold true to my overall message and that is to inspire, encourage, love and entertain. The EP will consist of (more…)

Oh February, you were so good to me…

February has come and gone, and all I have to say is WOW! This month was jammed packed with events, concerts & family. Thank you to all that came out to see me at any of the shows last month. I really enjoy what I do and it’s even better when you’re there! Along with the excitement, I did however, experience a loss that really put me in perspective. One thing that I learned was that this life isn’t ours and we must appreciate each moment and give thanks to our creator that is guiding our path.

You must also give. Giving is what we should do daily from our hearts. Giving doesn’t always represent the monetary things in life, but the actions we take for granted like checking in with someone you haven’t spoken to in awhile or simple saying I Love You. Sometimes, we get caught up in our own daily agendas that we forget there are other people that need us too. One more important revelation is (more…)
